What Costa Rica Actually Feels Like (Through My Camera Roll)

Costa Rica isn’t just waterfalls and beaches.
It’s the little, unexpected moments in between...the ones you don’t plan for, the ones that don’t show up on itineraries.
Looking back at my camera roll, I realized those were the moments that stayed with me the most.

One of the things that surprised me most about Costa Rica was how human it felt.
Not polished. Not overly curated. Just real.
Stopping on the side of the road, talking to locals, watching little moments unfold that you couldn’t recreate even if you tried.
It’s the kind of place where you don’t just see things, you experience them.
Driving is a little bit wild, but so worth it

Driving here isn’t always smooth, but it's always interesting.
The roads twist, turn, narrow, and sometimes feel like they weren’t meant for two cars at all, but that’s part of it.
Every drive feels like a small adventure. You’re not just getting from point A to B, you’re in it.
Fresh fruit everywhere. And not just a little, it’s overflowing.
Coconuts, pineapples, bananas…all so much juicier and tastier than anything back home.

Not everything is easy, and that’s part of the story

Costa Rica isn’t always convenient.
Some roads require a 4x4. Some places take longer to get to than you expected.
But those moments? They slow you down.
They remind you that you’re not just passing through, you're here to enjoy the moment and the adventure.
You’ll see things that just… feel different. Like someone casually transporting surfboards on a bike on the way to work. It’s not rushed. Just people living their lives in a way that feels a little more free.

There are views everywhere.
Not just the “famous” ones.
You’ll turn a corner and suddenly there’s ocean, palm trees, an animal, or a crazy colored flower or plant.
There is always something new to see.
If you slow down and look around, the beauty is just there.
Costa Rica has this way of surprising you.
Random stops. Unexpected finds. Things you weren’t looking for but end up remembering anyway.
Those are the moments that stick.
If you’re planning a trip to Costa Rica, or even just dreaming about one…
It’s not just about where you go, it's about how it feels when you're there and the memories you have for a lifetime.

I put together a free guide with everything I wish I knew before going, from planning tips to how to actually experience it without feeling rushed.
Reach out if you have any questions!
Much Love,
