What if living a longer, healthier life wasn’t about doing more… but about living differently?
When we started learning about Costa Rica’s Blue Zone, we couldn’t stop thinking about one thing—why do people there seem so much more at ease with life?
In this small region of the world, people are living well into their 90s and even 100s. Not just living longer—but living better.
And the most surprising part? It’s not complicated.

What Is a Blue Zone?
And why we should probably care more than we do
Before we dive into Costa Rica specifically, we should talk about what a “Blue Zone” actually is.
Blue Zones are places where people live significantly longer than average—and not because of extreme diets or strict routines.
When we look at these regions, a few things always stand out:
People move naturally every day
They eat simple, whole foods
They stay deeply connected to family and community
And they live with a strong sense of purpose
It made us realize… maybe longevity isn’t about hacks. Maybe it’s about how we live day-to-day.

Where Is Costa Rica’s Blue Zone?
The Nicoya Peninsula
Costa Rica’s Blue Zone is located in the Nicoya Peninsula—and if you’ve ever been there, you probably felt it right away.
It’s slower. Quieter. Simpler.
When we think about Nicoya, it’s not just the beaches or the sunshine—it’s the way life feels there.
People aren’t rushing. They’re not constantly overwhelmed. There’s a sense of calm that’s hard to explain until you experience it.

The Lifestyle That Supports Longevity
It’s not about doing more—it’s about doing things differently
One of the biggest things we noticed is that people in Nicoya don’t “work out” the way we think of it. They just… move.
They walk. They spend time outside. They stay active through daily life instead of forcing it into a routine.
And it made us think—what if the problem isn’t that we’re not doing enough…but that we’ve made everything too complicated?

Simple, Nourishing Foods
What they eat (and what they don’t)
The diet in this region isn’t trendy or restrictive—it’s simple.
We’re talking:
Beans and rice
Fresh fruits
Locally grown foods
There’s no obsession with perfection. No constant tracking. Just consistency.
And honestly, it’s refreshing to see that eating well doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.

Strong Community and Connection
Something we don’t talk about enough
This might be one of the most powerful parts of all.
People in Nicoya stay connected—to their families, their neighbours, their communities.
And when we really think about it… how often do we prioritize that?
There’s a sense of belonging there that you can feel, and it plays a huge role in both mental and physical health.
A Sense of Purpose (“Plan de Vida”)
A reason to wake up every day
In Costa Rica, there’s a concept called “plan de vida”—basically, your reason for living.
And it’s not tied to career success or productivity. It’s about meaning. Family. Living with intention.
When we came across this idea, it really made us pause…How often do we actually think about our own purpose?

Lower Stress, Slower Living
The part we’re probably missing most
If there’s one thing that stands out the most, it’s this:
Life in Nicoya is slower.
And not in a boring way—in a grounded, present, intentional way.
There’s less pressure. Less urgency. More space to just be. And maybe that’s the real difference.
Because when we’re constantly rushing, stressing, and trying to do more… our bodies feel it.
The more we learn about places like this, the more it makes us question everything.
Maybe living longer isn’t about finding the perfect routine.
Maybe it’s about:
Slowing down
Connecting more
Simplifying what we’ve overcomplicated
And maybe that’s why Costa Rica doesn’t just feel like a beautiful place to visit…
It feels like a reminder of how life could be.
